Benjamin Britten in the (Inter)Cultural Space:
texts of works and contexts of interpretation

Abstract. Various productions of B. Britten's operas are considered from the point of view of the interaction of the work with the context of its interpretation. Three models of interpretation are identified: actualization of a work in the context of its creation, that is, in its "own" culture, the transfer of a musical work into a foreign cultural context and its staging in the context of intercultural interaction. All three cases show the ability of B. Britten's works to be interesting and significant in a variety of cultural contexts, which indicates both their universal significance and the ability (post)the modern space to absorb and master musical texts, different in temporal and cultural generation.

Keywords. Work, interpretation, cultural context, intercultural interaction, text, temporality, opera, polysemy, postmodernism, authenticity
