Culture as an inevitability (on the subjective status of culture)

Abstract. From the standpoint of the semantic approach, the author believes that culture has a subjective status. Culture should be understood not locally, but as a kind of universal principle of supra-natural existence, as a substance, the modes of which are all local cultures. Further, the most important function of culture is a meditative one aimed at overcoming the duality of human existence.

Keywords: culture, semantic approach, subject, media, duality, existence.

The article was published in the journal "Personality. Culture. Society". 2009. Issue 1

[1] One of the few who seriously took care of this problem was M. Foucault, mentioned by A.J. Flier.
[2] For example, the English legislation of the early 19th century included 222 crimes punishable by death, among which were such as stealing a handkerchief, killing a rabbit, complicity in a criminal offense punishable by death, pickpocketing (more than one shilling) sacrilege, shooting at a customs official and many others See: Montagu Basil. Opinions of different authors upon the punishment of death. London, 1809. The French legislation of those times was drafted in a similar spirit.
