The monograph is devoted to the phenomenon of city colours in the history of European culture.  Each historical town coloring is regarded as a kind of a daunting task, which is addressed in the context of the analysis of social ties and cultural codes color message senders and recipients. The concept of field becomes a conceptual lens enables to observe urban life as part of a larger sociocultural system. In this way, the origin of color images chronology recovers urban space, analyzed their development, mechanisms of temporality and obsolescence.
