Mass Culture: Essay on Theories. New Approaches and Assessments

Abstract. The article deals with a theoretic reflection on mass culture, involving some areas of the 20th c. theoretical discourse which overpassed the early 20th c. rigid theories analyzed in the previous issue. The author examines such areas as semiotics, gender studies and sociology of culture, defining approaches to mass culture.

Key words. Mass culture, research, semiotics, structuralism, binary oppositions, narrative, feminism, gender studies, gender stereotypes, cultural capital, aesthetic taste.
