On cultural variability and social dynamics (referring to the works of A. Ya. Flier)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of A. Ya. Flier's cultural ideas, which not only allow us to reconstruct the space of cultural theory, but also serve as a methodological basis for specific cultural studies. In this capacity, referring to the works of Flier, the author of the article highlights the problem of socio-historical (world-civilizational) monism and cultural (local - civilizational) originality. Central, according to the author of the article, is the idea of Flier about the variability of cultural forms, which are the main way to ensure socio-cultural and civilizational stability in the context of socio-dynamics of culture. The emphasis is shifted from speculative constructions about the unified civilizational development of mankind to the analysis of the uniqueness of various types of cultures and specific cultural and historical development trajectories.
