Shapinskaya Ekaterina Nikolaevna, Spaces for Escapism and Running Away from Everyday Life: Religion, Love, Art
Abstract. The article deals with the interconnection of such important areas of culture as everyday life and escapism. Everyday life is regarded as a dynamic space including new cultural phenomena, which creates preconditions for the emergence of new forms of escapism without which it is impossible to maintain everyday routines. The main ways of escapism are delineated, such as physical escape from reality, estrangement of customary objects and phenomena and “inner” escapism. Such typical ways of escape from reality as traveling and holiday are analyzed as well as spheres where the drive of an individual towards “otherwordliness” is shown most clearly: religion, love and art. The author investigates the changes in these areas of escapism in the 21th century.
