The phenomenon of prestigious consumption

Abstract. The article examines the phenomenon of prestigious consumption, its essential and symbolic meanings, the typology of consumed items, options for social distribution, as well as the historical evolution and cultural significance of this phenomenon. The relevance of the article is connected with the fact that the phenomenon of prestigious consumption is still widespread in culture and needs theoretical understanding. The novelty is that for the first time an attempt is being made to systematize various manifestations of this phenomenon.

Keywords. Prestigious consumption, fashion, symbolism, things, titles, lifestyle, historical epochs, metaculture.
