The return of the repressed ethnicity: the ethnic and cultural Other in (post)modern world

Abstract. The article deals with the problem of the ethno-cultural Other in connection with the socio-cultural changes taking place in the era that can be described as "post-postmodernism". Events taking place in the world point to the failure of multiculturalism's attempts to solve the problem of confrontation between dominant and subordinate cultures by equalizing them in a heterogeneous space. The voice of the Other periodically breaks out of control and becomes aggressive, which shows the stability of the opposition " We/They", based on the difference of ethno-cultural identities. Turning to the theory of postcolonialism, as well as to research in the field of post-postmodernism, the author shows the need to re-conceptualize the concept of ethno-cultural "otherness" from the perspective of today's realities.
