To the 260th Anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Birthday: a Story of a Portrait

Ekaterina Shapinskaya talks with collector Sergei Grigoryantz and musicologist Alexei Naumov.

Abstract. The author discusses with her interviewees a portrait of Mozart, which is dated back to his lifetime by research of the Glinka museum staff-member. The discussion focuses on the tortuous history of artworks in transition historical periods, including the importance of original pieces of art in the era of mass culture and simulacrum. Dedicated to the 260th anniversary of W.A. Mozart’s birthday, the article generalizes the research conducted by the author of the portrait and the expert in music and introduces the artwork only known through exhibition catalogues for scientific use.
