The spell of death in history, art Nouveau and now

Abstract. The article discusses the attitude to death in modern culture. The author examines the causes and circumstances that have rekindled interest in the question of what death is and whether it is worth being afraid of. Three concepts of understanding life after death are analyzed: pagan (animistic), Christian and esoteric. They are based on the idea of the human soul, which is endowed with the property of eternity. However, the transition to a New time, the development of scientific rational thinking led to the abandonment of this idea. As a result, the fear of death returns, the inability to think about it. The author offers the solution of this problem on the ways of criticism of myths about death and life of the modern person, and also development of the concept of the correct life. The article implements the following methodology: problem statement, comparative analysis, cultural and historical reconstruction of ideas about the afterlife, scenario approach. As a result, the author was able to describe the situation in modern culture, which requires to re-discuss the problem of life after death and find a solution. This decision the researcher sees in the criticism of memes about the life and death of modern man, as well as in the formation of the concept of the right life.
