Development of Cognitive Intentions: from Culture Genesis to Social Functions of Culture (answering L. Klein)
Abstract. The article presents the answer to renown archeologist Lev Klein, who criticized cultural studies and culture genesis. He article argues that cultural studies is an independent science with its own cognitive tasks, with its criticism from the point of view of archeology being incorrect. The author himself opposes to culture genesis because of its being based on archeological and ethnological understanding of culture, not matching to culturological aims of knowledge and principles of analytical work. The article gives main statements characterizing cognitive tasks of
cultural studies and samples of culturological understanding of culture, religion and art and an interpretation of their social functions.
Key words. Cultural studies, culture genesis, archeological and ethnological view on culture, Culturological cognitive tasks, origin of culture, social functions of culture
